Shiva challenged Brahma and Vishnu:

Vishnu took the form of a Boar (Varaha).
He dug deep into the earth in search of the foundation of this eternal light.
Brahma took the form of a Swan (Hamsa).
He flew upward, determined to find the top of the pillar.
